not to sound like a rube, but this is one of the tools used to take all the "Jewish" out of Jewish music: a little American Idol (look up idol in Torah), a little non-Jewish music being sung by a fellow looking like he's frum, a catch-the-teenagers-eye CD jacket - and we're very few steps away from listening to amything and everything, during sefira and beyond!
I'm a big music guy, and I wouldn't even steal this stuff. It should not be supported.
Yossi, This is what is wrong with Judaism today. We're all so superficial and scared of being "not as frum" as the next guy... I've heard from competent halachic authorities that there are only two things wrong with Goyish Music. 1) The content may be innapropriate (love songs, explicit lyrics, etc), and 2) That it is being sung by a goy. The second one is derived from the concept that the person who creates something puts a little bit of themselves into it. IE, a sefer torah written by an apikores is not allowed to be used because even though it is the same text given by hashem, the apikores' ideas can somehow become a part of it. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH A JEW SINGING GOYISH MUSIC. In fact, the trend now seems to be to take goyish themes and make them our own (look at some of the latest "jewish" albums that take themes from Scorpions, Van Halen, Billy Joel, etc...).
As far as the American Idol/Teenager thing, you seem to be missing the point that this is a spoof. They are trying to make fun of all the stuff that makes pop culture pop. I've never seen American Idol myself, but I know the concept and found this very entertaining.
"I'm a big music guy, and I wouldn't even steal this stuff" Good. You shouldn't steal ANY music, you idiot. Even Goyish music. There is a growing trend of young Jews who think the way you do, and its awfully sad. You sicken me.
Hey. I know the guy that made this album... His mother just passed away, and this album was something that she really wanted him to finish. Sadly, she wasn't around long enough to see it completed, but it was finished in her memory. So, here it is. You know what, maybe it won't be the best selling album ever, but to say it "should not be supported" is just mean. Don't go judging people you don't know.
